Yahoo! New Profile creates no buzz!!!

Category: How Products benefit users No Comments »

1. New Yahoo! Profile launched.

2. I started surfing the web rather late in 2001. Yahoo! Profile has always been there in the same address profiles.yahoo.com - that means it should have always been there in the last decade without people’s notice

3. Compared to the old profile, new profile only adds Feeds, Guestbook and reorganizes the profile.

4. Yahoo! Profile is NOT a social-networking site.

5. Yahoo! Profile is another step in their Open Strategy, but how useful is it to users? Users do NOT think like roll-then-scale-then-integrate-then-sell strategists do. Don’t challenge their patience.

Conclusions

  • Don’t bother comparing Yahoo! Profile with 360 or 360plus or the late Mash, they’re not the same.
  • Don’t bother dragging Facebook or Blogger here, it’d only make a not-funny-at-all joke.
  • Yahoo!’s hints are but hints, promises are but promises, buzzes are but buzzes. No hit created.

The topics I’d wish somebody would start blogging professionally for: Investment, Fund Management and Financial Analysis

Category: How Finance is analyzed 1 Comment »

I just received a question from Darren Rowse from Twitter today.

    Darren Rowse's question on Twitter

So to answer his question, I’d like to share what I’m thinking:

    1. Investment in emerging markets

The reason is that emerging markets behave in a different way from those of developed countries. Theory of macro-economics or technical analysis cannot be applied without customization. I’d wish somebody would write about this topic, beside Nam Le at Cofieu

    2. The career of a Financial Analyst, especially in Fund Management, Banking and Securities

…Because this is my chosen career path.

I do read Jason Vu’s and Khoa Pham’s blogs regularly though.

How about you? What is your answer to the question?

Google Knol provides another channel / platform, rather than depresses current ones

Category: How Products benefit users No Comments »

    Google Knol screenshot

The latest content-creating product from Google, Knol, is heating the debates on whether it would directly compete with current content ecologies.

Below is my view toward Knol.

    Knol vs. Wikipedia?

Knol is often compared to Wikipedia.

In fact, Knol is more centralized on authorship and authority in content creation, so I believe that Knol employs the top-down model which is closer to Citizendium than to Wikipedia.

However, to repeat, Knol is not wiki. It takes advantage of collaborative-editing.

    Knol vs. Blogs?

More interestingly, some bloggers express their concern that Knol would interfere with professional blogs, which also aim at sharing knowledge.

My view is that Knol does not compete with Blogs, but rather offer an alternative to content publishing.

Knol is more on scientific/academic articles and how-to style, while blogs are more for expressing opinions.

For example, this post Tag of mine is more suitable for Knol, while this entry is more for my blog.

So Knol is another channel and platform to share your knowledge with the world, with more focus on authorization.

How will you use Google Knol?
